Abdi Hagi Yusuf
Abdi Hagi Yusuf is a Somalian Canadian who immigrated to Canada in 1990. He was soon after hired as a temporary employee at Canada Post. Brother Hagi Yusuf struggled to overcome many forms of racial discrimination. He experienced discrimination for being a black man. He faced discrimination for not having an English name and discrimination because English is not Brother Hagi Yusuf’s first language but rather his fifth language. Brother Hagi Yusuf’s persevered through the fires of discrimination to subsequently be elected to the position Chief Shop Steward of one of the largest Postal Facilities in Canada both 2008 and again in 2014. Hagi Yusuf is currently an Executive Board member of both the Canadian Union of Postal Workers Toronto Local and the Coalition of Black Trade Unionist Ontario Chapter.
